An annual function is several productions at once, and costumes are usually the part that runs late. This checklist keeps it calm.
Six to four weeks before
- Fix the programme: every item, its theme and its cast.
- Build one costume sheet: item, character, number of students, approximate ages or sizes.
- Mark which items need matching sets (group dances) and which need individual characters (plays, tableaux).
- List the props each item needs: swords, crowns, dandiyas, lathis, spectacles.
- Send the sheet to your costume supplier and confirm availability for the date.
Three to two weeks before
- Collect sizes: age is a start, but height and chest measurements are better for older children.
- Arrange a trial for lead characters and anyone between sizes.
- Confirm the pickup date, the return date and who is responsible for each set.
The week of the event
- Pick up the costumes and check every set against the sheet, including props and jewellery.
- Bag and label each child's costume with their name and item.
- Run a dress rehearsal: check that children can move, dance and speak comfortably.
After the applause
- Collect every costume and prop back from the children the same day.
- Check the count against the sheet before returning.
We supply schools with whole-class sets, group dance outfits and props. Send us your programme: see the annual function page and the school rack.
